What To Expect

Before any new roofing project is started, it’s important that you know what to expect from the experience. As you might imagine, a great deal of debris can result from removing an old roof. During the 1-2 days we spend removing your old roof, your yard may be a bit of a construction zone.

First steps:

1. Project Bid

Our first step is to assess the project with a home visit. There are many factors involved with roofing and it’s critical we understand all the dynamics at play before quoting a job. Our estimates are generating using sophisticated software that factors the cost right down to a specific nail. Understanding your home and roof is an important part of this calculation process.

2. Contract

The contract we develop for your project covers all the materials and labor that will go into your new roof. These details can be overwhelming, but we break it down for you in a way that makes sense. Our expert staff is here to answer your questions and provide you with the best possible experience throughout the construction and life of your new roof. Our contract is a big part of this experience and will keep you in the know.

3. Design Options

We have many styles of roofs to choose from. You will have many options and can call upon the design expertise of our staff if you need help matching a roof to your home.

4. Delivery of Materials

Once the contract has been signed and the materials chosen, we will have all components delivered to your address. You can expect to have a large block of goods in your driveway (or another flat, solid surface) for several days while the old roof is being removed and the new roof is being developed.

5. Getting Down To Business

AFH uses high quality materials from GAF Elk in all our roofing projects

Our team of professionals will arrive early on the day they begin your project. The first step is removing your existing roof. This can take a couple of days depending on its size. The process is quite loud and you will see a lot of material flying off your roof. We will take the utmost care in cleaning up as much material as we can find, but it’s not uncommon for the odd staple of nail to be left behind. It might be an idea to rake the area after the job is complete, to make certain no hazardous materials remain. A new roof takes about 2 days to install and will involve a lot of hammering. Before this process begins, we suggest you make certain all wall fixtures, china cabinettes, and other delicate items are securely hung or taken down for the duration of the project. Although great care is taken throughout the project, walls will often shake as we hammer on your roof. It’s best to take preventative measures to avoid costly accidents.

Things to be aware of:

  • The roofing process involve hammering and banging and can potentially shake loose improperly secured items, such as family photos or artwork. Please protect these items, as we cannot be held responsible for any damage that occurs.
  • There’s a small chance the hammering and banging can also cause vent pipes that run from the water heater or furnace to become disconnected. Please check these connections once we’re finished.
